Knott chosen as a finalist

Escambia County (Ala.) District 1 School Superintendent John Knott is one of several Alabama school superintendents selected by the School Superintendent Alabama (SSA) who are finalists for the Alabama 2020 Superintendent of the Year.

Other Superintendent of the Year finalists include: from District 2, Dr. Avis Williams, Selma City; District 3, Dr. Rick McInturf, Ozark City; District 4, Dr. Chuck Ledbetter, Pike Road City; District 5, Mr. John Moore, Leeds City; District 6, Dr. Jeff Goodwin, Oxford City; District 7, Dr. Mike Daria, Tuscaloosa City; District 8, Dr. Jimmy Shaw, Florence City, and District 9, Dr. Cindy Wigley, Marshall County.

The statewide judging of Alabama’s finalists and the announcement of the Alabama 2020 Superintendent of the Year will occur during the SSA Fall Conference in Florence, AL. The Alabama Superintendent of the Year will then be honored at a luncheon on February 4, 2020, held during SSA’s Legislative Conference in Montgomery. Alabama’s winner will be provided with a Superintendent of the Year ring and travel expenses to the AASA National Conference on Education, February 13 through 15, 2020, in San Diego.

At the National Conference, Alabama’s winner will receive a bronze medallion with the Superintendent of the Year emblem on it and a plaque from AASA with The School Superintendents Association, SSA’s national affiliate and sponsor of this program. Each state’s winner will be recognized during the AASA National Conference where the national winner for 2020 will be announced.

Nominations for this award were submitted from each of SSA’s nine districts. The state winner will be determined based on his or her career achievements and success in advancing public education.

School Superintendents of Alabama (SSA) represents superintendents and school system leaders around the state, providing a leading voice in sound public policy development and advocacy; quality professional learning opportunities; and meaningful collaboration and networking.

“We’ve got such a great group of superintendents in our district, it is very humbling and a huge honor to be chosen,” said Knott. “We have some great leaders in our district, and for them to support me, I couldnt ask for anything better than that.”
