Flomaton traffic stops nets arrest for having spice

Century man had illgal drug inside his vehicle and later said he had it in his shoe

A Century man pulled over in Flomaton for no tag light was later transported to the Escambia County Detention Center on drug charges after the officer found spice in the suspect's possession.

Brandon Joshua Mathis, 27, 9410 Ivey St., was arrested Sunday night and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to police reports, Capt. Chance Thompson observed a vehicle at 8:43 p.m. on Sidney Manning Boulevard and initiated a traffic stop.

Mathis gave Thompson consent to search his vehicle and the officer reported finding a baggie that contained what he believed to be spice.

Thompson reported as he was transporting Mathis to the county jail he asked if he had anything else illegal on his person and Mathis said he had another bag of spice in his shoe.
