Ala. Power closing Brewton, Flomaton offices

Company to close 40 offices across state

The Alabama Power business offices in Brewton and Flomaton will be closing by Aug. 30 in a mass closing of nearly half of the power companies offices across the state of Alabama. The office in Atmore will remain open.

Alabama Power officials announced that it was closing 40 offices across the state. There are currently 86 offices and 46 will remain open following the shutdowns.

“To more effectively serve our customers' evolving needs, we are better positioning our operations by combining selected business offices and appliance centers across our service territory,” Alabama Power spokesperson Beth Thomas said Saturday in announcing the closings. “More of our customers pay their bills and manage their accounts electronically and electronic payments are our fastest growing payment channels.”

Thomas added that customers can also set up autopay online or pay in-person at an authorized location. Thomas said there are more than 2,500 authorized payment locations at retailers like Walmart, Dollar General, Family Dollar, Fred's and Piggly Wiggly. To find a payment location near you go to http://www.alabamapower.com/payinperson.

“More of our customers want to do business with us electronically and fewer re walking into offices,” Thomas said. “And as mentioned, we've also seen more customers using authorized payment locations with multiple locations available in communities across the state that offer convenient hours on nights and weekends. Customers can conveniently pay and manage their accounts at these locations while they're picking up their groceries or other goods. In fact, most offices that are closing have at least five authorized payment locations within a five-mile radius.”

According to the website, CVS Pharmacy in Century and Dollar General in Century will accept Alabama Power payments.

Thomas said Alabama Power is providing employees of the soon-to-be-closed locations as many options as possible to manage their careers.

“Examples include repositioning to other offices and new opportunities where they can use their skill sets to gain additional experience,” Thomas said.
