Century woman jailed after tip

East Brewton police, sheriff's deputies wait for drug transaction, make cocaine arrest

A tip about a possible drug transaction in East Brewton led to the arrest of two Century residents on drug charges.

Apollonia Burt, 31, 13 George Ave., and Fred Hall, 51, 50 West Pond St., were both arrested June 3. Burt was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) and tampering with physical evidence. Hall was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to reports, the East Brewton Police Department received a tip about a drug transaction that was going to take place at the Shell Station in East Brewton. East Brewton police and deputies with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office parked along the highway waiting on the described vehicle.

Sgt. Paige Howell then received information that the meeting place had been changed to Beauty World in Brewton.

The patrol units went to that location and made contact with the vehicle and identified the occupants as Burt and Hall. As an officer patted down Hall he discovered a pipe in Hall's front pocket.

East Brewton Auxiliary Officer Bryan Martin reported seeing Burt reach inside the vehicle and place something inside the front of her pants. A female officer was called to the scene and discovered the cocaine inside Burt's pants.

Both were arrested and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.

Routine traffic stops in East Brewton last month ended in the arrests of four people on various drug charges.

Teresa Chapman, 57, 2910 Ridge Road, Brewton was arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana II following a traffic stop for failing to maintain proper lane.

According to reports, when Sgt. Howell approached the vehicle he smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. When Chapman was asked if there was anything illegal inside the vehicle she said yes and handed the officer a bag of marijuana.

Sharnice Spears, 21, 20960 Highway 31, Apartment 5, Flomaton, was charged unlawful possession of marijuana II following a traffic stop on Earl Street.

Cpl. Brandon Mealer reported smelling the odor of marijuana when he approached the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed marijuana in the driver's side floorboard.

Jamie Grant Fraser, 34, 3166 Pineview Drive, Brewton, was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia after Sgt. Howell discovered a plastic bag in the driver's door that contained a white powdery residue that tested positive for methamphetamine.

Sgt. Howell reported he initiated the stop due to a window tint violation and made contact with the driver, later identified as Fraser. Howell also reported he had seen that vehicle at a residence on Maddox Street where he had received multiple complaints of drug activity.

Howell reported Fraser appeared to be nervous and gave consent to search the vehicle, which turned up the plastic bag. Howell also reported that Fraser told him he had smoked marijuana earlier that evening.

Adam Dwayne Sexton, 44, 222 Travis Road, Brewton, was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia after Sgt. Howell found a pipe used to smoke meth behind the driver's seat.

Sgt. Howell initiated the traffic stop for failing to maintain a proper lane. The officer said when he approached the driver and asked him if there was anything wrong with the truck he said it had loose steering.

Howell reported that he had noticed that same vehicle at a trailer park where he had received numerous complaints about illegal drug activity.

After receiving permission to search the vehicle, Howell reported finding a pipe behind the driver's seat used to smoke meth.
