Two stabbed at Holman Prison

Less than two weeks after officers seize 356 weapons; inmates stabbed inside

Less than two weeks after hundreds of officers completed a shakedown at the William C. Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore where 356 makeshift weapons were seized, two inmates were stabbed and a third injured this past Friday in an inmate-on-inmate assault involving 11 prisoners.

According to information released by the Alabama Department of Corrections, two of the three inmates injured were taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening stab wounds. A third inmate was treated at the facility's infirmary for minor injuries.

Following the incident, ADOC deployed a correctional emergency response team to augment the staff during each of the facility's shifts. Prison officials reported that the incident was isolated to one housing area and that no other inmates were involved.

Reports state eight inmates who were identified as suspects in the assault were moved to different facilities for security reasons. Officials did not release the names of the inmates.

ADOC officials said the circumstances that led to the incident remain under investigation.
