Six Northview students recognized for arts

Six students from Northview High School will join others from the Escambia County (Fla.) School System to be recognized at the Escambia County Public Schools Foundation’s 2019 Mira Awards on Thursday, April 11 at 6 p.m. at Booker T. Washington High School’s Theodore B.D. Bennett Auditorium.

The Mira Awards recognize and highlight the “best of the best” graduating seniors in the Creative Arts. Students from each Escambia County High School will receive a personalized medallion and Congressional certificate.

The ceremony is presented by Firehouse Subs (2 East 9 Mile Road), and sponsored by Blues Angel Music, Fishbein Orthodontics, The Vaughn Financial Company, and License for Learning.

The students from Northview High School are: Shelby Bashore and Macwell Odom for Drama; Gabrielle Kline for Graphic Arts; Zachary Prosser for Creative Writing; Delaney Reynolds for Yearbook and Charles Ian Williamson for Visual Arts

The MIRA awards program was started in 1987 by a group of Tate High School teachers who wanted to recognize students who excelled in the arts.

This special group of teachers decided that the ceremony would be named MIRA, after the brightest star in the constellation Cetus. This name symbolizes these honored students’ wonderful gifts of imagination and creative talents that designate them as “bright and amazing stars.”

Their remarkable accomplishments shine for all of us to see, read, hear, and enjoy.
