Traffic stop

An East Brewton woman pulled over for having a switched tag was arrested Feb. 14 and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (meth) after handing the drugs over to the arresting officer.

Sgt. Paige Howell initiated the traffic stop on a blue Jeep Cherokee driven by Laura Johnson Butts, 59, 301 Ashton St.

Sgt. Howell reported as he was talking to Butts she was extremely nervous and wanted to leave. Howell asked her if there was anything illegal inside the vehicle and she gave him a gram of meth she had in her jacket pocket.
