If you have a question about an ancestor, or how to research your family tree or if you are just in need of an uplifting smile to brighten, your day--you should go see Debra Fuqua at the Brewton Public Library.
Debra is the employee of the quarter for the City of Brewton, earning the honors after 13 years of service to the city. Debra works as a clerk, keeping patron cards organized and up to date and provides help with genealogy and is a specialist at archiving.
"I like working at the library," she said, "and the work is never boring." Because the library is a popular place for city residents from childhood throughout their lives, the resources from books to videos and other documents need tending to daily to keep things in order. Debra Fuqua can often be found managing those resources to make the library easy to use.
"We see people from all walks of life every day--and that's one reason we never get bored," she said. "We get people who do genealogy in their spare time and I help them. All they need to do is tell me their mother's maiden name and I can look the person up."
Debra said she looks forward to managing resources that will help, like the 1950 Census records and WWII draft cards that can help solve a puzzle for researchers. She said she always considered history as "cool."
In her spare time, Debra loves local pet rescue group "Paws Crossed" and even adopted a dog, "Bama" from them. "They do such a good job
getting the dogs ready to be adopted so the pets are wonderful from the start," she said.
