Two arrested for marijuana

An East Brewton man who was being served a trespassing citation for being at an apartment complex ended up with a bed in the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton after police found 52.7 grams of marijuana inside the apartment being rented to his girlfriend.

Frank James Williams, 31, 747 Williamson St., Apartment B2 was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana I.

According to reports released by the East Brewton Police Department, officers were assisting the apartment manager in giving Williams a trespassing citation. When they arrived and began talking to Williams and his girlfriend, the officer reported smelling the odor of marijuana from inside the apartment.

The girlfriend gave consent to search and the police department's K-9 dog alerted on a basket in the closet of the master bedroom, where the marijuana was discovered. Police said Williams admitted the marijuana was his and he was placed under arrest and jailed on $5,000 bond.

A Brewton girl was arrested on drug charges the day before her 19th birthday following a traffic stop Jan. 6 that revealed two rolled-up marijuana cigarettes inside the vehicle.

Shana Elaine Lowery, 3206 Ridge Road, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana II.

According to reports from the East Brewton Police Department, Officer Brandon Mealer pulled over a Dodge Dart for failing to use a turn signal. Mealer reported when he approached the vehicle he smelled the odor of marijuana and his K-9 dog alerted. The marijuana cigarettes were found in the cup holder and Lowery took responsibility for the illegal drugs. She was jailed on $1,000 bond.
