George E. Chavers

George E. Chavers, 82, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018 in Century, Fla.

Mr. Chavers was a native of McCullough, Ala. who had resided in Century for most of his life. A 1953 graduate of Century high School and U.S. Army Veteran, he was a retired power house operator with Container with 39 years of service. He was also a member and deacon of Poplar Dell Baptist Church.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Poplar Dell Baptist Church with Revs. Mitch Herring and Robert Gandy officiating. Burial followed at Poplar Dell Baptist Cemetery with Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Chavers is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doris Gandy Chavers of Century; four sons, Randy (Mary Ann) Chavers of Cantonment, Gregory (Sherry) Chavers of Crestview, Barry (Denise) Chavers of Century and Mary (Alicia) Chavers of Denver, Colo.; two brothers, Raymond Chavers of Molino, Fla. and John (Paula) Chavers of Pensacola; one sister, Patricia Ann Redoskia of Flomaton; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and other family members and friends.

Mr. Chavers was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Nettie Bell Chavers; one brother, Clarence “Peanut' Chavers, Jr.; and one sister, Clara Creamer.
