Five E. Brewton traffic stops net drug charges

Traffic stops Friday in East Brewton led to the arrest of five people on drug charges as police continue its crackdown on illegal drugs in the city.

Christopher Michael Speruill, 22, 8726 Eight Mile Creek Road, Pensacola, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana II, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and giving false information to a law enforcement officer.

Sgt. Paige Howell initiated a traffic stop for an expired tag on Earl Street. Speruill was a passenger in the vehicle.

Speruill said he didn't have his driver's license and gave the officer the name Sean Blackburn with his actual date of birth.

Howell noted the K-9 alerted on the vehicle and while patting Speruill down he found his driver's license in his back pocket. He also found marijuana and rolling papers in the back seat that Speruill claimed were his.

He was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton and then turned over to Escambia County, Fla.

Cleo Frye, 25, 140 Short St., Lot 9, Atmore, and Dalvin Williams Frye, 22, 169 2nd St., Atmore, were both charged with unlawful possession of marijuana II.

According to reports, the two were in a vehicle that pulled over on Ridge Road. The report states Cleo Frye gave the officer marijuana he had hidden in his shoe.

Both men were released on $1,000 bond.

Robert William Kochell, 21, 105 Flemming Lane, Brewton, was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia after officers found a pipe inside his vehicle containing marijuana residue.

Kochell was pulled over on 4th Avenue in East Brewton for having no tag light. He was later released on $1,000 bond.

William Reed, 66, 3044 Travis Road, Brewton, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana II following a traffic stop on Travis Road. Police said Reed was a passenger in the vehicle and the marijuana was found in his jacket in the back seat of the vehicle. He was later released on $1,000 bond.
