Century man arrested as habitual offender

A Century man caught driving with a suspended license faces a felony charge as a habitual offender following a traffic stop that revealed his license had been suspended or 60 months.

Christopher Terrill Carter, 42, was arrested Aug. 30 when a deputy performed a traffic stop for speeding on a 2009 Chevrolet Impala on Old Flomaton Highway in the area of Lake Street, according to an Escambia County Sheriff's Office report.

The deputy pulled the vehicle over when the he observed his radar clock the Impala traveling 40 mph in an area with a posted speed limit of 25 mph. The report said when the deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Carter, the deputy discovered through dispatch that Carter's license was suspended and Carter was classified as a habitual traffic offender as of Nov. 22, 2017, with his license suspended for 60 months.

Carter was issued a citation for speeding and a citation for knowingly driving while license suspended habitually and transported to Escambia County Jail where he was given a $2,500 bond.
