Dorothy Elizabeth Renfroe Wiggins

Dorothy Elizabeth Renfroe Wiggins, 86, of Flomaton, died Monday, April 23, 2018 after a prolonged illness.

Mrs. Wiggins was the youngest of seven children born to Jim and Florence (Crappes) Renfroe and a great-great-granddaughter of one of Flomaton's founding pioneer families. Affectionately known as “Dot,” she graduated from Century High School and married James David Wiggins from East Brewton in 1950. After raising four children, she returned to school at age 40 to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse. Earning her LPN, she worked at community hospitals in Jay and Flomaton. A longtime member of First Baptist Church of Flomaton, she was an active volunteer for charity fundraising causes and is the subject of great stories from her youth.

The funeral was held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 26, at Flomaton Cemetery with Dr. Tim Tew officiating. Burial followed with Flomaton Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Wiggins is survived by two sisters, Mary Lou Lowery of Allentown, Fla. and Margaret Nordan of Flomaton; three sons, David Wiggins of Deland, Fla., Gary Wiggins of Santa Rosa Beach and Ronnie Wiggins of Brewton; one daughter, Diane Thompson of Bay Minette; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Wiggins was preceded in death by her husband.
