Conecuh County commissioner indicted

Grand jury indicts Andrews on six counts of distributing marijuana; facing prison

Conecuh County Commissioner Johnny Andrews has been indicted on six felony counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance stemming from his March 16, 2017 arrest accusing him of making at least six separate sales of marijuana.

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall said his office's Criminal Trials Division presented the evidence to a Conecuh County grand jury last Tuesday and the indictments were returned the following day. Marshall said Andrews turned himself in at the Conecuh County Jail last Wednesday and was released on bond.

Andrews' original arrest followed a joint investigation between the attorney general's office and the FBI which led to the charges of illegally distributing marijuana in Conecuh County.

Marshall stated no more information about the investigation or alleged crimes will be released at this time. He also said no trial or court dates have been set.

If convicted, Andrews faces a maximum penalty of two to 10 years in prison on each count. Also, if convicted he will be forced to vacate his seat on the Conecuh County Commission immediately.

Marshall also noted the case remains under investigation and if anyone has any information related to the charges they are asked to call the attorney general's office at 334-242-7300.
