Brewton woman faces charges

A Brewton woman has been arrested after being accused of trying to pass checks that were reported stolen from the Cash-2-Go business in Flomaton on Dec. 2, 2017.

Tonya Lynn Shergill, 43, 442 Eddins Road, was arrested March 26 by Flomaton police and charged with possession of a forged instrument II and receiving stolen property IV.

Flomaton police originally responded to the business on Sidney Manning Boulevard on Dec. 2 in reference to a burglary where forced entry was made through the back door.

Police reported they made contact with the complainant and determined a small amount of cash and numerous checks were reported stolen. It was also noted several file cabinets were damaged.

Warrants for Shergill's arrest were obtained after she allegedly tried to use some of the checks that had been reported stolen.

Flomaton police said the case is still under investigation and they are seeking more suspects.
