New principal offers Meet and Greet

Parents of students who will be at Flomaton Elementary School this coming school year will have a chance to meet the school's new principal, George Brown, at a Meet Your Principal event at 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 24, in the cafeteria of the school. Brown prefers parents who can to come alone, but welcomes students also if necessary.

Parents and students are invited to come meet Brown, get to know the new principal and ask any questions about the upcoming school year.

“It's an opportunity for parents to come out, if they want to meet me, and participate in a question and answer session,” said Brown. “I will have the chance to meet them, introduce myself and share my vision for the school, the direction I would like to go.”

Brown said he planned the event to open up a dialog for parents to feel free ask him questions.

“I feel my job is to lead a school and its teachers where students are the primary focus, and I feel parents have a right to come in and ask me how I plan to do that,” said Brown. “I consider myself approachable and this is the way I want to show that I am approachable. Parents may not always like the answer they get from me, but my job is to make the best decision for all the students in the school.”

Brown was hired by the Escambia County (Ala.) Board of Education after former principal Diane Holmes retired due to health reasons.
