Godwin named interim town clerk in Century

Century Mayor Henry Hawkins announced last Monday night that Kim Godwin, current Superintendent of Gas for the town of Century for the past year, will serve as interim town clerk until a qualified candidate can fill the position.

Godwin will qualify to serve as the town clerk permanently when her required two-year minimum membership to the International Institute of Municipal Clerks is up in April 2018.

The position comes following former Town Clerk Leslie Howington's resignation, submitted Friday, Feb. 23. Howington's last day is Friday, March 9.

Godwin has been with the town for about six years, first serving as Deputy Clerk of Utilities for almost two years. She took a job at Century Correctional Institute for four months working as a secretary, but returned to work for the town of Century.

“I will serve as interim clerk until the position is advertised and someone is interviewed and selected,” said Godwin.

When asked if she would consider applying for the job permanently, Godwin said she would be glad to be given the chance.

“Yes I would absolutely consider it,” said Godwin. “Although I enjoy being the town's gas superintendent, I relish the chance to be more involved in the town and serve in an administrative capacity.”

Godwin's first official day as interim town clerk will be next Monday, March 12.
