Friday deadline for election qualifying

Only one contested race now for primary

Since last week five Democrats have qualified for local elections in Escambia County (Ala.) for the June 5 primaries and candidates for both parties have until 5 p.m. Friday to qualify with their local chairman.

At this point there will be only one contested local race on the ballot in June with incumbent District 5 county commissioner David Quarker facing Karean Reynolds on the Democratic ticket.

Other Democrats to qualify since last week are incumbent District 3 county commissioner Larry White; incumbent District 1 county commissioner David Stokes; and Mike Lambert for sheriff.

As of Wednesday there will be two local races in the November General Election with Republican Heath Jackson and Democrat Mike Lambert running for sheriff and Democrat White facing Republican Fletcher 'Scottie' Stewart for the District 3 seat on the county commission.

Others who have qualified on the Republican ticket are Coleman Wallace for Seat 7 on the school board and Mike Edwards for Seat 3 on the school board.

Probate Judge Doug Agerton and Circuit Clerk John Robert Fountain have also qualified to seek re-election on the Democratic ticket.
