Esther “Granny” Benson, 86, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017 in West Florida Hospital.
Mrs. Benson was born Jan. 24, 1931 to Holly and Daisy Hawthorne in Conecuh County, Ala. She married Willie Benson, Sr. in August of 1953 and later moved to Flomaton, where her six children grew up.
The funeral was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 2, at Fannie Cemetery with Pastor Sylvester Hawthorne officiating. Burial followed with Christian Memorial Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Benson is survived by two sons, Willie Benson, Jr. and Tommy (Karen) Benson, both of Flomaton; four daughters, Janice Ware, Annie Jones, Jackie Benson and Willie (Jeffrey) Spears, all of Brewton, Ala.; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and other family members.
Mrs. Benson was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four brothers; and three sisters.
