Atmore man behind bars again; Brewton man jailed with cocaine

An Atmore man convicted of attempted murder in 2023 was back behind bars after Escambia County Sheriff's deputies discovered drugs and a weapon inside the man's vehicle.

Trenton O'Neal Atchison, 23, 317 East 4th St., was arrested Sunday, May 12, and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana I, trafficking illegal drugs, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with physical evidence. Atchison's bond was set at $100,000.

According to court records, officers were serving a warrant on Atchison near 315 East 4th St., in Atmore, for Baldwin County, as well as Atchison being wanted for questioning in another Baldwin County incident, when Atchison threw a piece of marijuana from his floorboard out of the vehicle.

After other officers arrived a search of his vehicle was performed and officers reported finding 185 grams of Ecstasy pills, 300 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, new and used plastic baggies and a tan colored Glock .9mm handgun with an extended magazine.

Atchison was taken into custody and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.

Brewton man jailed

A Brewton man was arrested on distribution and possession of a controlled substance after being accused of providing crack cocaine to an individual who was working in cooperation with the Brewton Police Department.

Ashante Maurice Smith, 42, 105 Palmer St., is accused of making the drug transaction while near Gowan Avenue in Brewton.

Smith was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center and later issued a $25,000 bond.
