Escambia County has 19.4 percent voter turnouts for the primaries
Raymond Wiggins defeated Lew Najor 760 to 381 for the District 2 seat on the Escambia County Commission Commission and Jerry Wilson defeated incumbent District 3 county school board member Mike Edwards 515 to 223 to win Tuesday's Republican Primary.
Escambia County had a 19.54 percent voter turnout Tuesday with 22,209 registered voters not casting a ballot.
Wiggins, nor Wilson, face Democratic opposition in the November General Election.
"I feel great," Wiggins said. "It's a good feeling. I want to thank my friends and family for supporting me."
By winning the Republican nomination, Wiggins is all but assured of winning his fifth term on the commission. He currently serves as the commission chairman.
"I will continue to represent the people with integrity and honest leadership," Wiggins said.
Wilson echoed Wiggins' sentiments, saying he felt great and was ready to get to work for the students of Escambia County.
Wilson said he decided to run for the school board seat because he felt the children have been forgotten and that education was all about the children.
"I graduated from W.S. Neal, my wife graduated from W.S. Neal, my daughter graduated from W.S. Neal and I have a son in the ninth grade at W.S. Neal," Wilson said. "We have to prepare our students to leave high school, either to go to work or go to college, and I hope I can do my part on the board to make sure those things happen."
Across the state of Alabama the voter turnout was 21.05 percent, meaning almost 3 million registered voters did not cast ballots.
As expected, Donald Trump won the GOP nomination in Alabama and Joe Biden won the Democratic nomination. In Escambia County, Trump received 4,109 votes to Nikki Haley's 350 votes. Biden received 686 votes in Escambia County to Dean Phillips' 38.

In the race for the First Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, Barry Moore defeated Jerry Carl 53,805 to 50,156. Carl did carry Escambia County 3,093 to 1,283.
Escambia County also followed the statewide trend in defeating the proposed amendment on the ballot Tuesday.
