Multiple charges filed on Atmore woman
An Atmore woman was arrested on multiple charges, including drugs and assaulting a police officer by spitting on him and biting him.
Mandy Renee Lassitter, 44, 326 Jack Springs Road, was arrested Feb. 1 and charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, assault II, assault with bodily fluids, resisting arrest and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
She was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton and later given a $25,000 bond.
According to reports from the Atmore Police Department, officers responded to Lassitter's residence with unknown circumstances and were met by her brother, who told officers Lassitter was acting strange and may be under the influence of narcotics.
Police said due to Lassitter's history of being combative and aggressive with first responders, the officers contacted her to make sure it was safe for medics to enter the residence.
When officers entered the residence, they say Lassitter threw a clear glass jar at one of the officers and struck him in the chest. The jar was later confirmed to control a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.
Officers then reported Lassitter threw a grenade-shapped bottle with plastic tubes attached that struck the same officer. That bottle tested positive for cocaine. Officers reported she threw a shampoo bottle toward the officer, but missed.
When the officer attempted to restrain Lassitter, she began pulling away and officers forced her to the floor and gained control. Reports state while officers were handcuffing Lassitter, she bite one of the officers on the hand, grabbed the officer's arm and began twisting the skin, causing an injury to the officer.
Police reported while they detained Lassitter so medics could evaluate her, she spit in an officer's face twice.
Police reports say officers then placed a spit mask over Lassitter's face and while medics were attempting to evaluate her she began racially taunting one of the medics.
Lassitter was transported to Atmore Community Hospital where she refused to cooperate and was released back to the officers, who transported her to the detention center in Brewton.
