Murder suspect pleads guilty

Two still facing trial for Flomaton murder

One of three people charged with capital murder for the Aug. 12, 2017, murder of a Flomaton couple has pleaded guilty to felony murder and her sentencing date was deferred to Aug. 21, 2024.

Jacqueline Bernice Rolin, who had an Atmore address at the time of her arrest, pleaded guilty last Tuesday in front of Circuit Judge Todd Stearns.

Rolin was then released on a $25,000 signature bond.

Jermaine Lavelle Smith, whose address was listed as the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton, and Kenneth Joe Lowery, Jr., of Century remain behind bars charged with capital murder.

Rolin, Smith and Lowery were arrested November, 2021, and charged with capital murder for the shooting deaths of Timothy Adams, 50, and Susan Adams, 61.

Flomaton police were originally dispatched to the couple's 1455 College St., residence for a welfare check after receiving a call at 1:59 p.m. on Aug. 12, 2017 from a man who said he'd gone to the Adams' residence to purchase a refrigerator but couldn't get anyone to come to the door. The caller told police he knew Timothy Adams had a heart condition and said someone needed to check on them.

When police arrived they found the couple dead inside, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Court records show the three were charged with shooting the couple with a .44-magnum pistol during the commission of theft of pills, cell phones and a wallet.

Escambia County District Attorney Steve Billy said this week that no trial date has been set for Smith or Lowery on their murder charges. If convicted of capital murder the two will either face the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole.
