Wiggins, White are re-elected

Commission elects chair and vice chair

The Escambia County (Ala.) Commission will vote on resolutions at its next meeting to re-elect Raymond Wiggins and chairman and Larry White as vice chairman, following a vote Monday.

County Clerk-Administrator Ron Cink said the commission needed to consider the resolutions Monday and vote on them at the next meeting. The items on the agenda had Wiggins’ and White’s name included.

Karean Reynolds said he had no problem with Wiggins and White continuing the serve in those positions but felt the board needed to have an election to select the chairman and vice chairman.

White said the names on the agenda were simply to show who was currently serving in those positions.

County Attorney Dave Jordan and Cink agreed the commission needed to make nominations and vote. Steven Dickie said he thought the commission discussed leaving Wiggins and White in those positions during a workshop. It was noted that no vote took place at the workshop.

Reynolds made a motion to add the election of chairman and vice chairman to the agenda, which was approved.

Reynolds then made a motion to name Wiggins chairman and Brandon Smith made a motion to name White as vice chairman. Both motions passed unanimously. The new terms for those positions begin on the second Tuesday in January.

In other business Monday, the commission:

- Corrected a date error on the county’s agreement with the Agency on Aging.

- Approved a drug screening agreement between the county and Behavioral Health Systems.

-Approved posting the speed limit on Booker Road at 25 mph.
