Monroeville man tries to bring cocaine, marijuana, spice and phones into the county jail

A Monroeville man has been arrested on multiple charges after he allegedly attempted to smuggle cocaine, methamphetamine, synthetic marijuana, marijuana and cell phones into the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.

Tyreke Jamal De'Raye Armstrong, 18, 81 Sellers St., was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, trafficking meth, trafficking synthetic drugs, unlawful possession of marijuana I and promoting prison contraband.

According to court records, on or about Oct. 18, Armstrong was accused of possessing 10 grams of cocaine, 28 grams or more of meth, 745 grams of synthetic marijuana (spice), 150 grams of marijuana and five cell phones at the detention center, located at 316 Court St., Brewton.

Court records state Armstrong is accused of jumping a fence and entering the detention center grounds in an attempt to deliver the contraband to someone being held inside the jail.
