Jay man dies in Flomaton crash

McDaniel is killed when his vehicle collides with truck

A 68-year old Jay man was killed early Wednesday morning when his vehicle apparently veered into the path of an 18-wheeler near the intersection of Highway 31 and Ringold Street in Flomaton near the high school.

Raymond McDaniel, a 1974 graduate of Jay High School, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 9:05 crash.

McDaniel was retired as the maintenance manager for the town of Jay, where he worked for 19 years.

Witnesses said McDaniel, who was headed west on Highway 31, veered into the path of the oncoming 18-wheeler. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.

The crash caused Highway 31 in Flomaton to be closed for several hours.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the Flomaton Police Department are investigating the crash. No further information was available at press time Wednesday.
