Park named after Dewey Bondurant, Jr.

Former mayor is honored for work

Anthony Davidson Field will now sit inside Dewey J. Bondurant, Jr., park instead of Hurricane Park after the Escambia County (Ala.) School Board voted to name the Flomaton park in honor of the former mayor.

Bondurant, who was first elected mayor of Flomaton in 2004, resigned that position on April 10, citing health reasons. The Flomaton Town Council has since appointed Jim Johnson as mayor to fill Bondurant's unexpired term.

Bondurant was one of many people who spearheaded the construction of Hurricane Park back in 1984 at a time when he actually lived in Escambia County, Fla.
