Sanks resigns clerk position

Escambia County (Ala.) Clerk-Administrator Tony Sanks will step down from that position he's held for the past 28-plus years with his final day on the job set for May 19.

Sanks, 50, grew up in Atmore and was working at AmSouth Bank in Birmingham when he learned about the opening as the county clerk and decided to apply.

He said he's enjoyed his tenure as the clerk-administrator but felt the time was right to make change.
