Jones is jailed for sex abuse on girl who was 6 and 7 at the time of alleged incidents
An Atmore man was arrested on sex charges involving a then 6-year old girl that alledgely occurred over a three-year period from 2012 to 2015.
Vonsha Mondez Jones, 28, was arrested last Thursday, Jan. 26, and charged with sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old, sodomy I and sexual abuse I.
A statement released by the Atmore Police Department states a police investigator was contacted on Nov. 30, 2021, by an Alabama Department of Human Resources case worker who was investigating the incident. The case worker told police the child victim had recently disclosed memories of sexual abuse and now lives in the Atmore area.
Police said the Escambia County Child Advocacy Center interviewed the victim several weeks later and discovered the abuse began when the victim was under 12 years old and occurred over a three-year period. Police said the victim identified Jones as the suspect.
Court records state the alleged abuse began when Jones was 18 years old and the victim was 6 years old and continued after he turned 19 and the victim turned 7.
Jones was arrested and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton. During a bond hearing Jan. 27, Jones did not request a court-appointed attorney and his bond was set at $100,000. If released from jail, a condition of his bond is that Jones is to have no contact with the victim, the victim's family or any child under the age of 18.
A preliminary hearing has been set for 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, at the Escambia County Courthouse in Brewton.
