Absentee deadline approaches

Applications due by Nov. 3

With the General Election set for Nov. 8 applications for absentee ballots in Escambia County (Ala.) must be made by 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at the circuit clerk’s office inside the courthouse in Brewton.

As of Tuesday, Circuit Clerk John Robert Fountain said he had sent out 214 ballots and had received 135 back to his office, leaving 79 ballots still outstanding.

In addition to Fountain’s office, absentee solicitations are also available on the secretary of states’ website at http://www.sos.state.al.us.

Fountain noted that once an application has been filed a ballot will be mailed to the voter. People can go to his office, complete an application, get a ballot and vote. However, no one is allowed to bring in an application for any other person, including family members.

Once the ballot is filled out, the absentee ballot can only be returned to the clerk’s office by the person voting. Absentee ballots must be returned, in person, to Fountain’s office by 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22. If the ballot is mailed to Fountain’s office at P.O. Box 856, Brewton, AL., 36427, it must be postmarked no later than Nov. 7.
