Atmore police are seeking the public’s help in identifying the person responsible for robbing and beating an employee inside the store on Saturday Oct. 14.

According to information released by the Atmore Police Department, a customer went into New York Fashions on North Main Street Saturday and found an employee inside suffering from a head wound. The customer dialed 911 and Atmore police responded.

Sgt. Darrell McMann reported the attack apparently occurred between 10 a.m. and noon Saturday.

Officers reported that the male victim apparently attempted to restrain the attacker but was unsuccessful.

Sgt. McMann said the suspect left the store with less than $40 cash and took the employee’s credit card out of his pocket.a

Sgt. McMann said the victim was treated and released after seeking medical treatment. He added that investigators are following up on leads and checking with nearby businesses for any video footage of the suspect.

Police described the suspect as a black male, about 6-feet, 3-inches tall with a medium build. The suspect was wearing an extra large light-colored shirt, dark-colored pants, casual-style shoes, possibly grey in color. The suspect was also wearing a black face mask.

Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks said Wednesday that they do have ‘a person of interest’ and are in the process of obtaining search warrants.
