E.B. man confesses to murder

Everett held without bond for strangling Elisha Johnson

A missing person report turned into murder warrants being signed on an East Brewton resident who officials say confessed to strangling the woman to death and then dumping her body.

William Joseph Everett, Jr., 50, 3044 Travis Road, was arrested Friday, Aug. 19 and later charged with the murder of Elisha Jordan.

During a bond hearing Monday before District Judge Eric Coale, Everett was ordered to be held without bond.

Sheriff Jackson said a family member and friend of Jordan reported they couldn't find her Friday morning and went to Everett's residence to talk to him. It was reported that Everett and Jordan were living together at Everett's Travis Road residence.

Sheriff Jackson said the concerned citizens told officers that after talking with Everett they felt something "wasn't right".

Everett had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for failure to appear. Sheriff Jackson said they went to his residence and while there talking to him the deputies noticed what appeared to be blood inside the residence.

Everett was arrested on the outstanding failure to appear charge and a search warrant was obtained for his house.

Sheriff Jackson said Everett was interviewed at the Escambia County Sheriff's Office where Everett admitted to killing Jordan. Everett also told investigators that after he choked her to death, he placed her body in the back of his truck and drove to a secluded area off of Dixon Nursery Road and dumped her body into a ravine. Court records state Everett is accused of strangling Jordan with his hands and a miscellaneous cloth object.

Friday night deputies located Jordan's body in the wooded area. Her body was taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Mobile for an autopsy.

Sheriff Jackson said Everett has been charged with murder, but that charge could be upgraded once the case is presented to an Escambia County grand jury.
