Woman attempts to flee Flomaton stop

Atmore resident is arrested on drug and DUI charges after refusing to stop at check point

An Atmore woman who approached a driver's license check in Flomaton apparently fled from the scene and was later stopped and charged with multiple drug charges and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Fenetrias Lewis, 39, was arrested Aug. 13 and charged with DUI, two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance (Ecstasy and cocaine), unlawful possession of marijuana II, tampering with evidence and attempting to elude law enforcement.

According to Flomaton Police Chief Chance Thompson, the Flomaton Police Department was conducting a check point between 12 a.m. and 1 a.m. Aug. 13 at Old Atmore Road and Tulip Street when Lewis' vehicle approached.

Thompson reported officers smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and instructed Lewis to pull to the side of the road. Lewis then fled the scene and traveled a short distance before being pulled over by Flomaton police.

Thompson said the investigation determined Lewis threw an item out of her vehicle before coming to a stop. Police also determined that Fenetrias was under the influence of alcohol at the time.

Officers then found Ecstasy and marijuana. The item thrown from the vehicle was a baggie containing more than 7 grams of a substance that tested positive for cocaine.
