Sawmill, Mayfest days set Saturday

This Saturday, Century's Sawmill Day and Car Show and Atmore's Mayfest will offer the family fun activities, food and more.

The Alger Sullivan Historical Society will kick of its annual Sawmill Day at 8 a.m., Saturday, May 7, with car registration for $25, which includes lunch for the driver. Registration ends at 11 a.m. Once the cars are parked, they cannot be moved until after the award presentation at 3 p.m.

There is no charge for vendor space and there will be day-long live entertainment. Fresh grilled hamburger meals and crafts and goods of all sorts will be offered for sale from various vendors.

There will be free history museum tours which include contests and prizes. Free exhibits will be set up also, detailing area history and interesting facts, people and events in the past.

Atmore

The Miss Mayfest Pageant is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., this Friday, May 6, at Escambia County High School auditorium. Admission is $2 per person and there will be a Miss Viewer's Choice award given to one of the contestants. Ages 4 through 18 include five categories.

Sponsored by the Atmore Chamber of Commerce, the Mayfest Art, Music and Craft Festival will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, May 7, at Tom Byrne Park. There will be arts and crafts, food and commercial vendors there. Bring the kids to enjoy the kids' play area. A Beautiful Baby Contest sponsored by Atmore Walmart and a softball tournament are scheduled. There will be live music all day.
