Atmore cats shot with arrows leads to plea for help

Police asking public help ID the suspects

Atmore police is seeking the public’s help in identifying the person or persons responsible for killing at least two cats using a bow and arrow.

Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks said two cats are now confirmed dead in the Fernway Drive area.

One of the cats was found coming out of the woods with an arrow imbedded in its head and later died.

Brooks said investigators are talking with neighbors but as of press time Wednesday there were no known suspects.

Sgt. Darrell McMann said the two dead cats were confirmed in a six-week period but noted there are rumors and social media posts that suggest other cats may have been shot. He said there was a similar incident back in February.

McMann said the department has received a few tips and they are following up on all leads to identify the person or person responsible.

If anyone has any information about who may be responsible for shooting the cats, they are asked to contact the police department at 251-368-9141 or their nearest law enforcement agency.
