Flowers selected new town clerk

Flomaton unanimously supports the hiring

Angela Flowers will become the new town clerk in Flomaton following a unanimous vote Monday afternoon by the Flomaton Town Council.

Flowers will replace Carrie Moore, who recently announced her resignation to take a position with the Escambia County (Ala.) Commission. Moore's resignation becomes effective May 1.

Flowers currently works as the bookkeeper and property clerk for the Escambia County Probate Office in Brewton.

She grew up in Castleberry and graduated from W.S. Neal High School in 1999 and attended Jefferson Davis Community College. She worked for Colonial Bank for five years and the Bank of Brewton for seven years before joining the probate office.

"I'm excited for the opportunity," Flowers said. "I know I have a lot to learn and big shoes to fill, but I'm ready for the challenge."

She currently lives in the McCall community.

Mayor Dewey Bondurant, Jr., said Mayor Pro Tem Jim Johnson, Moore and he went through the applications and conducted the interviews that led to him recommending Flowers. He said he also reached out to Judge of Probate Doug Agerton who told him he felt that Flowers could come in and do the job.

Although her last official day with the town is May 1, Moore said she will be available to help in anyway.

"If I have to come in on Saturday to train, I'll be there," Moore told the council. "I'm not going to drop her in and leave. I'll be here to train. I won't leave you hanging."

Bondurant said he had agreed to set Flowers' pay at $800 per week.
