Conecuh chase nabs suspect

Evergreen man wanted in Brewton on felony charges is one of four suspects arrested following vehicle chase

The Evergreen Police Department arrested four Evergreen men, that included one wanted on felony charges filed by the Brewton Police Department, early Sunday morning after a high-speed chase that took officers through southern Conecuh County and back to Evergreen before the vehicle was stopped.

According to the Evergreen Police Department, an officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a 2006 Chrysler 300 on Pecan Street for no tag at approximately 1:25 a.m.

The vehicle stopped and as the officer approached the vehicle it took off. A second officer arriving on scene began the chase and the original unit joined in when the officer returned to his patrol car.

The vehicle went down Bruner Avenue, turned onto Old Sparta Road (County Road 25) and proceeded until they turned onto County Road 87. The vehicle returned to County Road 29 and began going back into the Evergreen City Limits. The vehicle went onto Willie Rogers Road and was attempting to head toward the Owassa Road when they were stopped by a train at the Miller Sellers Drive intersection.

Officers blocked the vehicle and took four subjects into custody. During the chase two pistols were thrown from the vehicle and recovered by Evergreen officers. A third pistol was discovered in the pants of one of the subjects, Damarius Walker, 18. Walker was charged with possession of pistol without a permit.

Deondre Golden, 21, was the driver of the vehicle. He was charged with attempting to elude police, and two counts of reckless endangerment.

Golden also faces charges of attempted murder and shooting into an occupied dwelling from an incident that occurred Jan. 24 in Brewton.

Brewton Police Sgt. Steven Ferguson said warrants were signed for Golden’s arrest following a drive-by shooting where more than 10 gunshots were fired into a house on Rankin Street shortly after midnight on Jan. 24.

Demarcus Salter, 19, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana II and minor in consumption of alcohol.

Golden and Salter were both out on bond for previous charges in Conecuh County and are being held pending a bond revocation by the state of Alabama Attorney General’s office.

Trevious Whitley, 19, another passenger in the car, was charged with receiving stolen property II.

Conecuh County officials said Sunday’s incident is still under investigation and more charges are expected.
