Qualifying ends; ballots set in

Escambia County (Ala.) voters casting ballots in certain districts in the May 24 Republican Primary will have three contested local races following Friday’s deadline to qualify for primaries.

All Republican voters across the county will see incumbent District 22 State Sen. Greg Albritton being challenged by Stephen Sexton for the party’s nomination.

Republican voters in the Alabama House of Representatives District 92 will decide between Matthew Hammett and Greg White. Mike Jones currently holds that seat but is now running for the District 31 State Senate seat.

In county races, residents living in county commission District 3, Republicans will choose between incumbent Scottie Stewart, Billy Blair and Larry White; residents living in school board District 6 will choose between Sherry Digmon and Michael Bowen; and residents living in school board District 4 will choose between incumbent Cindy Jackson, John Brantley and Rachel Fore Wagner.

If a runoff is needed to decide the winner of those races with three candidates, it will be held on June 21.

District 5 Commissioner Karean Reynolds was the only candidate to for the primary. He automatically wins the Democratic nomination and will appear on the Nov. General Election ballot without Republican opposition.

District 1 County Commissioner Steven Dickey also wins the Republican nomination without opposition and has no Democratic challenger in November.

District 66 State Sen. Alan Baker, District Attorney Steve Billy and Circuit Judge Todd Stearns have won the Republican nomination without competition and won’t face a Democratic challenger in November.
