Castleberry man is jailed for trafficking

Brewton police seize about 56 grams of meth

A man with addresses listed in Castleberry and Montgomery was arrested on multiple drug charges including trafficking in methamphetamine that netted him a $1 million bond following his Nov. 27 arrest in Brewton.

Alvin Cunningham, 53, who told Escambia County District Judge Eric Coale he lived at 380 Manuel St., Castleberry, also had a Montgomery address listed in records filed with the circuit clerk's office was charged with trafficking meth, unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana I and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Court records show Cunningham was found in possession of about 56 grams of meth near Douglas Avenue in Brewton. Records also state Cunningham had several packages of marijuana, attempted to deliver or sell cocaine and possessed a pipe used to smoke meth.

During a bond hearing Monday, Cunningham told Judge Coale he was not on probation or bond at the time of his arrest and wanted an attorney appointed.

Judge White then set the bond at $1 million.

"Why?" Cunningham asked.

Judge Coale told him the bond range on trafficking drugs went up to $1.5 million.

Cunningham also told the judge he had breathing problems said he could hardly breath at that time.
