Atmore man jailed for animal cruelty

Left dogs to die without food, water, shelter

An Atmore man was given a $30,000 bond on a felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals and four misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals after officers found one dog dead and others tethered with no food or shelter.

Larry Leslie Walker, 41, 1880 James Road, was also ordered by District Judge Eric Coale not to possess any animals if he is released on bond.

Court records state on July 7, officers found a dead female shepherd puppy that had no access to food, water or shelter on Walker's property.

Records also said officers found a tan and black female shepherd, a male black and tan shepherd, a shepherd puppy and a female shepherd puppy tethered with no access to food, water and shelter.

During the bond hearing before Judge Coale, Walker said he was not on probation or bond at the time of his arrest. He also told the judge he wanted to hire his own attorney.

Before setting the bond, Judge Coale said the aggravated cruelty charge was a Class C felony in Alabama.
