Board gives OK to personnel changes

Board discusses nine behind closed doors

After holding out nine names for an executive session behind closed doors to discuss the good name and character of people on the personnel recommendation list, the Escambia County (Ala.) School Board approved all leave of absences, resignations, retirements and transfers.

Those actions were taken during the board's meeting a noon on Tuesday.

Board Chairman Cindy Jackson presented the board with a list of personnel up for consideration and asked each board member to pull out any names they wished to discuss in executive session. Jackson said the executive session was needed to discuss the good name and character of those on the list.

Jackson recommended the retirement of Superintendent John Knott and the hiring of George Brown as principal of Flomaton high school to be discussed in executive session.

Board member Loumeek White pulled the names of all transfers on the list that included Brown's move from Flomaton Elementary School to Flomaton High School.

White's list also included Winter Sims, a special education teacher a the alternative school to special education teacher at Escambia County High School, effective Aug. 4 to replace Rosa Howard; Amanda Crowder, elementary teacher at at ECMS to elementary teacher at at Rachel Patterson Elementary School effective Aug. 4, replacing Angela Davis; Jacquita Jenkins, special education teacher at ECMS to special education teacher at Rachel Patterson effective Aug. 4, replacing Larissa Goodrich; Megan Donald, elementary teacher at W.S. Neal Middle School to elementary teacher at Rachel Patterson effective Aug. 4 replacing Alice Wolters.

Board member David Nolen also requested the resignation of Ashley Trawick, counselor at ECHS, effective July 1, to be discussed in executive session.

Board member Danny Benjamin requested the resignation of Kristal Wardrop, the board minutes secretary at the central office, effective Aug. 31, to be discussed behind closed doors.

All names pulled to be discussed in executive session were approved following the closed-door session.

Other personnel changes approved by the board Tuesday were:

Leave of absence – Sherry Atkins, seven-hour lunchroom worker at Pollard McCall Jr. High School for a medical leave of absence from March 3, 2021 through May 12, 2021; Kathy Steadham, custodian at the Turtle Point Environmental Center, under the Family Medical Leave Act, effective Feb. 26, 2001 through May 31, 2021.
