Atmore suspect crashes on I-65

Wanted for two counts of attempted murder in shootings, Robinson tries to elude police

An Atmore man wanted for shooting two people Sunday night, apparently fired at a third Monday and led law enforcement on a high speed chase that ended when the suspect crashed on Interstate 65 in Conecuh County.

Scottie Dale Robinson, 28, remained in an unidentified hospital Wednesday from injuries he suffered in the crash.

Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks said at 10:48 p.m. Sunday, the Atmore Police Department received a call from Atmore Community Hospital in regard to a patient showing up in the emergency room with gunshot wounds.

Police responded to the hospital and identified the victim as Gregory Lavon Robinson, 33, of Atmore, who was identified as Scottie Robinson's brother. Brooks said Gregory Robinson was flown by helicopter to an undisclosed medical facility for further treatment.

Police learned the shooting took place near the 100 block of 6th Avenue. When officers arrived at that location, they discovered another male victim had been shot. Brooks said Oneius Cortz White, 19, was found injured in a nearby residence.

White was transported to Atmore Community Hospital and later airlifted to an undisclosed medical facility.

Brooks said Scottie Robinson was identified as the suspect and warrants were signed charging him with two counts of attempted murder.

Tuesday, Atmore police received information that Scottie Robinson was just inside the state of Florida and wast threatening to harm another person he was following in his vehicle.

The person being followed was headed to the Atmore Police Department, when Scottie Robinson turned around and headed back into Florida.

Escambia County (Fla.) law enforcement officers spotted Scottie Robinson's vehicle on Highway 29 near Century and attempted to make a traffic stop, but Scottie Robinson fled at a high rate of speed and the chase was called off.

When Scottie Robinson came into Atmore, police blocked Highway 97 and Scottie Robinson turned onto Presley Street, avoided spike strips on the road and headed toward the interstate on Highway 21.

State Troopers with the Alabama Department of Law Enforcement attempted to make a traffic stop but were originally unsuccessful. Spike strips were put down on the interstate in Conecuh County.

Brooks said Scottie Robinson left the roadway and crashed.

Scottie Robinson remained in the hospital at an undisclosed location and now faces multiple charges in Alabama and Florida.

Court records show Scottie Robinson has a long criminal history with multiple arrests for possession of a controlled substance, distribution of a controlled substance, domestic violence and probation violations.
