Brewton area man faces SORNA charge

Paul jailed for violating sex notification act

A Brewton area man who was arrested last April for violating Alabama's Sexual Offender Notification Act, now faces four additional SORNA violations and has been jailed on $100,000 bond.

Marcus Devan Paul, 22, who listed his address as 'homeless' during a bond hearing was charged with violating the notification act by not having a valid identification as required by law, changing addresses without notifying authorities, failing to appear in February for his quarterly reporting and was not at his registered address when arrested on March 30.

Court records noted Devan's driver's license had expired on Sept. 29, 2019 and as a registered sex offender is required to maintain a valid identification card.

Paul was 19 when he was convicted on Aug. 6, 2019 for rape II involving a sexual relationship with a 13-year old girl.

He had registered and was staying at the Colonial Manner Motel, Room 126, at 643 South Boulevard in Brewton, but moved and did not notify the sheriff's office of the move.
