Flomaton police help nab sex trafficker

Victim dumped in Flomaton; suspect is nabbed near Montgomery

Quick action by the Flomaton Police Department has resulted in the arrest of a man involved in a human trafficking ring that involved Alabama, Florida and Georgia.

Flomaton Police Chief Chance Thompson issued a release this week concerning an incident that began in Flomaton on Nov. 1. Thompson said release of the information was delayed due to an on-going investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Thompson said Flomaton police were dispatched to Dr. Van Avenue Nov. 1 in reference to a female subject standing in the road who was bleeding and screaming.

Thompson said officers were told the girl had been picked up by a male subject driving a white car. He also said police were concerned with the female's well being due to the injuries possibly being serious.

Police were able to identify the owner of the vehicle and information was turned over the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, which made a traffic stop on the vehicle in the Montgomery area.

Thompson, who said the name of the suspect was not released, said state officials charged the driver of the vehicle with human trafficking.

“This is an example of excellent law enforcement cooperation to bring a victim out of terrible circumstances,” Thompson said. “It was learned that the victim had been human trafficked between Georgia, Florida and Alabama.

Thompson also said if anyone witnesses an incident or know of someone being trafficked they should contact their local law enforcement agency or contact the national human trafficking hotline at 1-888-737-7888.
