Two others injured[ police are seeking information on the suspects
One teenager is dead and two others were injured in an early Sunday morning shooting in Brewton that apparently started during an altercation outside Whataburger.
Ta'Nea Renee Gordon, 18, of Hayneville, Ala., was pronounced dead at D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital. A second victim is being treated for a gunshot wound that officials said was not life threatening and a third victim was treated for a minor injury and released from the hospital.
According to information released by the Brewton Police Department, none of the victims were from Brewton.
In a release from the police department's Public Information Director Heath Madison, the incident started from an argument involving parties in the parking lot of Whataburger and continued south on Highway 31.
The report stated Brewton police had an officer near the Whataburger about 3 a.m. and witnessed a crowd gathering. When the officer went to disperse the crowd, two vehicles left the Whataburger parking lot and began traveling south and the shooting took place near O'Reilly's Auto Parts.
Madison stated the police department received numerous calls from residents in the area about hearing gunshots.
When officers arrived at that area, the vehicles had already left.
Officers then received a call from dispatch that the emergency room at D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital needed officers on the scene in reference to two individuals being treated for gunshot wounds who were brought in by a personal vehicle.
When police arrived at the emergency room they were informed that Gordon was pronounced dead on arrival. The report stated Gordon had a single gunshot wound to the head. Officers then learned the two other victims were involved in the same incident.
Madison said the investigation is continuing and arrests are expected. Anyone with information is asked to call the Brewton Police Department at 867-3212 or their nearest law enforcement agency.
