Reynolds to give up chairmanship

Will continue to represent district on board; commission to tap new chairman Monday

Escambia County (Ala.) Commission Chairman Karean Reynolds announced that he will be resigning the chairmanship effective Aug. 9, but will remain on the commission as the District 5 representative.

"I would like to thank my fellow commissioners for placing their trust in my ability to lead the commission," Reynolds posted on his Facebook page. "This resignation weighs heavy on my heart as serving the citizens of our county remains one of my main priorities."

"I would like to personally thank our County Administrator Mr. Tony Sanks for his dedication to his job and for going above and beyond his duties and responsibilities to ensure the county was taken care of," Reynolds added. "His relentless efforts significantly aided me in my job performance."

When contacted, Reynolds said his resignation is a result of a further opportunity that would not allow him to continue serving as the full time commission chairman."

During an administrative workshop Tuesday afternoon, Reynolds again informed his fellow commissioners of his resignation.

The commission will vote Monday to name a new chairman. Reynolds noted that District 4 Commissioner Brandon Smith currently serves as the vice chairman of the commission. When asked, Smith said he would accept the chairmanship if the commission so voted at Monday's meeting.
