No elections in East Brewton or Jay due to unopposed candidates; Atmore, Brewton, Flomaton heading to the polls

When voters in the incorporated areas of Escambia County (Ala.) go to the polls Aug. 25 for their municipal elections, East Brewton residents will get to stay home because all six candidates who qualified face no opposition.

However, there will be races on the ballots in Atmore, Brewton and Flomaton.

In East Brewton, incumbent Mayor Terry Clark and incumbent councilmen Ned Siebert, Kenny Hultz, Ludon Simmons and Bob Arrant drew no opposition as the 5 p.m. Tuesday deadline passed to qualify for the election. District 5 Councilman Byron Palmer decided not to run and John Stephens was the only candidate to qualify for that seat.

Flomaton

Flomaton incumbent council members Charles Reardon, Lillian Dean, Jim Johnson and Roger Adkinson drew no opposition in their re-election bids but Flomaton voters will head to the polls to elect a mayor and council member from District 4.

Incumbent Mayor Dewey Bondurant, Jr., is being challenged by Chris Burnham and Kevin Knowles.

Incumbent District 4 Councilman C.E. 'Buster' Crapps is being challenged by Adrienne Johnson and Kay Wagner.

Brewton

Brewton Mayor Yank Lovelace will get another four-year term after he drew no opposition in his re-election campaign. District 1 Councilwoman Carrie Brown and District 3 Councilman Feast Broughton are also unopposed.

Weaver is being challenged by David Jennings; incumbent District 4 Councilman Joe Watson is being challenged by Patrick Hendrieth; and incumbent District 5 Councilwoman Cheryl P. Barton is being challenged by Richard Royce.

In District 3, previously held by Boutwell, Shelisa D. McCall and Leonard B. White have both qualified.

Jay

There will be no mayor or council elections on Jay's Aug. 18 ballot with all incumbents being re-elected without opposition, but Jay voters will head to the polls to decide on a non-binding resolution on whether or not to allow Sunday alcohol sales.

Incumbent Mayor Shon Owens and incumbent council members Wayne Godwin, Nina Hendricks, Josh Holloway and Jane Hayes will be elected without opposition.
