Flomaton man jailed for cocaine

Shoplifting complaint in Century leads Florida deputies to suspect, report finding cocaine

A Flomaton man was arrested Friday for possession of cocaine when law enforcement officers searched him following a complaint of retail theft at a local liquor store.

Aaron Keith Baxter, 33, 383 Wagon Wheel Road, was one of two males who entered Fusion liquor store in Century around 10 a.m., and were observed by the store employee putting a bottle of peach liquor down his shorts, according to an Escambia County (Fla.) Sheriff's office report.

The store employee, Carly Haynes, said she knew the other man as Jimmy Jet Moore, but did not know the suspect. The report said Haynes asked the suspect his name, to which he replied, 'Aaron Baxter' when Moore paid for his purchase.

The two men then left the store in a red Dodge Neon heading south on Century Boulevard.

Deputies watched the video tape at Fusion that captured Baxter's theft and his tentrance into the truck, including the clothes Baxter was wearing, according to the report.

Deputies spotted the red Dodge Neon while driving south on Century Boulevard parked at the Southern Pit Stop and Baxter standing at the driver's door wearing the same clothing he was wearing at the liquor store.

The report said the deputy approached Baxter and saw in plain sight the bottle of peach liquor that was taken from the liquor store. Baxter refused to talk to law enforcement and was detained and read his Miranda rights.

During a search of Baxter, the deputy found a black with gray zippered case which had inside a baggie with white powder (cocaine) inside. The deputy also discovered an OnTarget throwing knife, solid steel, about six inches long, readily accessible in his right rear pocket behind his wallet.

The deputy then checked the vehicle and under the driver's seat found a black handle meat cleaver with immediate access to the driver.

Baxter was arrested, charged with one count felony possession of a controlled substance, retail theft and carrying a concealed weapon. He was transported to Escambia County Jail, where he was given a bond of $9,000.
