The 2020 Statewide “Don’t Drop It On Alabama” Spring Cleanup will be held the entire month of April. The cleanup is held annually and coordinated by Alabama PALS (People Against a Littered State), which also coordinates and implements the Alabama Coastal Cleanup (partnership with ADCNR), the Alabama Clean Campus Program, the Alabama Adopt A Mile and Adopt A Stream programs (partnership with ALDOT) statewide. Each of these efforts are made possible through partnerships with business and industry, state associations, and state agencies that are committed to making Alabama a leader in environmental volunteerism and awareness. The “Don’t Drop It On Alabama” Spring Cleanup is offered to all 67 Alabama counties and statewide volunteer groups.
PALS is once again proud to continue and expand it’s partnership with Coca-Cola as the Title Sponsor for the 2020 cleanup effort. This partnership has enabled PALS to further incorporate the recycling of plastic bottles and aluminum cans into the annual cleanup effort.
“The Coca-Cola System is proud of our role as the Title Sponsor of the statewide 2020 Don’t Drop It on Alabama Spring Cleanup”, said Andy Britton, Director of Public Affairs and Communications for Coca-Cola. “We are especially pleased with our annual partnership with Alabama PALS as we all move forward towards our goal of a world without waste”.
The 2020 “Don’t Drop It On Alabama” Spring Cleanup is also made possible through PALS Sustaining Partners, ALDOT, ALFA, Coca-Cola, Alabama Farmer’s Cooperative, Vulcan Materials Company, Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, the Association of County Commissions of Alabama, and The Poarch Band of Creek Indians.
Alabama PALS is also proud to announce the partnership with the Alabama Community College Systems campuses for the 2020 statewide cleanup effort in April. Spencer Ryan, Executive Vice President of Alabama PALS stated “We are extremely proud of the commitment from the Alabama Community College System, and appreciate the dedication form the ACCS, as well as the enthusiasm displayed from each ACCS campus”.
PALS distributed approximately 185,000 bags statewide for the 2019 cleanup, as well as all materials and supplies to all participating cities, counties and volunteer groups. Volunteers interested in participating are encouraged to contact the local coordinator to join an existing cleanup, or to establish their own local cleanup within their respective community. As we continue to daily monitor the COVID-19 updates from CDC, Federal and State guidelines and updates, I want to encourage each of you and your volunteer groups to follow the strict guidelines and suggestions from local, state and federal sources. As I stated in the previous update, we are completely prepared to extend the 2020 Spring Cleanup into May, June or further if needed. First and paramount is the safety and wellbeing of each of you and our statewide volunteers. Please know that we support you in your decisions to delay your respective cleanup efforts until a further date to protect every person, community, city and county involved. We are all in this together and the safety of our PALS and “Don’t Drop it On Alabama” family remains paramount to the PALS staff, Board of Directors and Corporate Sponsors.I want to thank each of you that have “gone beyond the call of duty” to pick up your Spring Cleanup supplies in Montgomery for the cleanup. The old statement of “There is NO heart like the heart of a volunteer” becomes evident during times like we are experiencing. Please know that if you have not been able to pick up your supplies, I have talked with LogoBranders and they are fully prepared to hold your supplies for you until you are able to make plans to do so. Remember, we are here to support you and your groups and we remain dedicated to adjusting as we have to, as we work with each of you during this time. Thank you as always for your dedication, commitment and support, and for all that you mean to Alabama PALS and the “Don’t Drop It On Alabama” Spring Cleanup. Let’s continue to make wise and educated decisions, and know that we are fully prepared to make any changes to protect our most valuable resources, which are you, your cities, counties, communities and volunteers.
