John William Spence

John William Spence, 82, died Friday, May 22, 2020, in Stockton, Ala.

Mr. Spence was a native of Nokomis, Fla. and had resided in Walnut Hill, Fla. for most of his life. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, known as 'PopPop', he was a partner in Spence Logging Company and a retired supervisor with Gulf Power with 20 years of service. A member of the Bratt First Baptist Church, he was an avid outdoorsman.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 27, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Sis Helen Stewart and Bro. John C. Spence officiating. Burial followed at Spence Cemetery with Petty-Eastside Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Spence is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Ann Spence of Walnut Hill; two sons, Scott (Sandra) Spence of Walnut Hill and Kenneth “DJ” (Dianna) Spence of Molino, Fla.; four daughters, Robin (Joey) McCall of Walnut Hill, Shannon (Chris) Kinley of Century, Fla., Kathryn (Barry) Sumrall of Atmore and Regina (Brian) Simpson of Pensacola; one brother, J.D. “Dink” (Jean) Spence of Pineville, Fla.; 13 grandchildren (plus one on the way); 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, and many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Spence was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice Rebecca Spence; one brother, Alton Spence; and three sisters, Annie Mae Cook, Doris Payne and Marie Locke.
